The Panel for Educational Policy (PEP) consists of 24 voting members. Each borough president appoints one member, five members are elected by Community Education Council (CEC) presidents (one from each borough), and 13 are appointed by the Mayor—including four NYC public school parents. These must include at least one parent of a child with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), one parent of a child in a bilingual or English as a Second Language (ESL) program, and one parent of a child attending a District 75 school or program.
In addition to the voting members, the Chancellor and the NYC Comptroller serve as ex-officio members, and two high school students serve as non-voting members.
The Panel is currently seeking to fill a vacancy for the Staten Island representative, who is elected by the CEC Presidents. If you are interested in serving in this role, please complete the application linked below and submit it to PEPParentApplications@schools.nyc.gov by July 13, 2025.
