Event: August 2026 through March 2027
Contact: NYCBee@schools.nyc.gov
Have you heard all the Buzz? It’s time to enroll your school in the 2026–27 New York City Spelling Bee! ALL schools—public, charter, private, parochial, and homeschool—are invited to enroll by Saturday, October 31, for a chance to have your student be this year’s champion. The enrollment fee is $199, and Scripps does NOT accept purchase orders; pay by credit card or check. Enrollments submitted after the October 31 deadline will NOT be accepted. Please note the extended deadline on the Scripps website does NOT apply to New York City schools. During enrollment, schools will be asked to identify a spelling bee coordinator. In addition to other tasks that will be communicated after enrollment, spelling bee coordinators will receive access to www.spellingbee.com which will provide schools with resources for their spelling bee program. Only students in grades 4–8 are eligible to participate in the New York City Spelling Bee, and ALL schools must complete their school's spelling bee by Wednesday, November 25, 2026. The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, located in Lower Manhattan, would like to invite your 8th grade class to come and visit this academic year! Thanks to the Gray Foundation, all 8th grade groups from NYC public and charter schools can come for a guided tour or to hear testimony from a member of our Speakers Bureau for free. We are also able to provide free transportation to and from the Museum if needed. Bringing your class to the Museum complements what students are learning in their social studies curriculum. It provides students the opportunity to step outside of the classroom to see artifacts and hear testimony that will enhance their understanding of what happened during the Holocaust and World War II. To learn more about what opportunities we have to offer, please visit our website: Student Groups Grades 4-12 and Speakers Bureau.
