We offer high school students a Condom Availability Program to help them make decisions that can keep them healthy and safe. Students in grades 9-12 can go to their school’s Health Resource Room for:
- information on topics that complement their health education class, including sexual and reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, and healthy relationships
- free health resources, including condoms
- referrals to health services available in the school and neighborhood
Health Resource Rooms
Health Resource Rooms must be safe, supportive, and inclusive places for all students. Staff must be trained to work in the Health Resource Room and must keep student visits to the room confidential.
Why Does NYCPS Have This Program?
The Condom Availability Program is part of the HIV education program in New York City Public Schools. NY State requires HIV education for all students every year. The information that students get through the Condom Availability Program helps them learn how to:
- live a healthy life
- make good decisions that keep them safe
- communicate with others
- avoid risky behavior

Your school principal must send out a letter about the Condom Availability Program at the start of every school year.
Parent Notification Letter: This letter informs parents and guardians about the Condom Availability Program and explains what to do if they do not want their adolescent to get condoms through CAP. Under NY State law, all students have the right to get information and referrals to health services.
If you do not receive the parent letter, or you have questions about your child’s health education programs, talk to your principal or parent coordinator.
Student notification letter: This letter informs students about the Condom Availability Program and the services available to them.
